Shape files and .prj files

Postby monksjm » Thu Jun 20, 2013 5:12 pm

Back in 2008 I was emailed by carlson instructions about converting a shape file from UTM-19 to NAD83 ME-WF. This is something we run into a lot. The process involved me renaming the .prj file to something along the lines of .prjx or .prjnotused making the file unrecognizable by Carlson and therefore allowing for the conversion. I would then have to convert from UTM-19 to Lat Long, then from Lat Long to NAD83 ME-WF. This process, although lengthy does work. But since 2008 we have now started using ArcGIS in house and our GIS guy is running to the problem of having to remane back the .prj file. It's a bit tedious and doesn't make a lot of sense.

So my question is what steps, if any, has Carlson's GIS module made to be able to import and convert .shp files without the need to rename the .prj file and without having to go full circle to From UTM to Lat Long to NAD83?
