SurvCE Wishlist items

Postby polaris » Sun Jan 01, 2006 3:27 am

We've been using the Leica TCRA 1103 robotic and the Allegro box loaded w/
SurvCE for two years and have found it to be an excellent overall system.
There are a couple specific commonly used functions though that really
need to be addressed that should be easy to fix or add as an option that
were standard surveying functions on older data collection software like
the SDR33.

1. Offset to a line (point projection or staking). Even old rudimentary
survey software allowed you to type in two point numbers to define a line,
and then the point no. you want to find the offset to in the form of the
perpendicular distance to the line (plus value indicating right of line,
minus value indicating left side of line) and the distance from that
offset point on the line back to the first point defining the beginning or
direction of the line. This was a simple procedure using only 3 keystrokes
to get an answer. Now in SurvCE and Trimble software, you have to first
create a "centerline" which takes just way more time than it should to
give you a simple offset result. Give us back the simple 3-point option
back please!

2. Offset to a curve (point projection or staking). Same complaint as
above. Entry parameters only need to be begin curve point no.(PC), radius
point no.(RP) and End curvey point no.(PT) and offset distance right or
left) with the option to enter curve data manually instead of using
pre-calc'ed point no.'s like radius, delta, arc length, etc. Why do we
now have to take the time to create a "graphic" centerline curve just to
get a simple result?

3. I and many other surveyors I've talked to who have REPEATEDLY written
to Carlson support, talked face to face on on the phone w/ support, yada,
yada about putting back the previous feature in SurvCE to have the control
from the data collector to manually turn on & off the EGL lights on the
Leica robot so you can see from a distance when the instrument is facing
the you at the rod. When you are working in low visibility or at a
distance greater than 100 feet away from the gun in a tight space, and you
are trying to turn the gun with the joystick to narrow the search window
to find you, it's hard to impossible to see when the instrument is facing
you. This is a MAJOR issue for field surveyors using Leica robots that
used to be integrated in SurvCE originaally, but for whatever reason was
left out on later upgrades. PLEASE put this function back. We really do
NEED this!!!! The support people keep saying they will talk to the
programmers, but 2 years later, nothing has changed.

C'mon guys, I keep recommending Carlson to all my fellow surveyors as the
best survey software around, so can you help us out here on these 3 issues?

1. Have you used point projection routine found on the COGO tab? It seems
fairly simple to operate. It does ask for a Instrument position if you are
running a total station but if you are already set up you can simply select
OK, then select define baseline by 2 points, enter the 2 points and then
enter the point you want the offset perpendicular to. This command also adds
the ability to shoot points with out storeing them and get the offset from
the line and the distance up or down the line. Please let me know if this is
not what you are looking for.
2. I will see if this is something we can add and get back to you.
3. I was thinking we added a feature when lock on the rover was lost that
the guide lights automatically came on. I will inquire and see where we are
on this issue and what the plans are.
