SurvCE 1.61.01 and Topcon robot

Wow, is this ever a disaster or what? Using the Satel 2ASX radios with a
Topcon GTS 800A and attempting to run the "set collection" routine. The
automated routine forget about it. This feature has never worked
correctly. Not only with SurvCE but with at least one other "major
surveying software developer", and for what it's worth I've even had a
Topcon salesman tell me "it's never worked!".
So, attempt to run the routine to view the data and take the shots when
I feel (by viewing the instrument status/search/standby/real time data
screen) that the instrument has finally had time to collimate the prism(s)
which are on prism poles with bipods for both the backsight and the
foresight. "Turn to BS" in the BS setup screen causes the instrument to
turn and stop at a point about 2 feet to the side of the backsight prism
(which is at a distance of 600 (six hundred) feet in a wide open 20 acre
field with one tree and I'm no where near it..lucky for me, after much
frustration from the foresight end of things I made a personal visit to
the instrument to see what was going on) and of course this being a "check
BS" situation where it DID manage to finally search and collimate the
backsight correctly initially and went to the foresight before the routine
was run.....the 2 foot miscollimation checks the angle of 000-00-00 as
good, but it sure isn't going to measure a distance! I wonder why!

Well, I think to myself, lets just forego the radios all together and go
with cable from Explorer (the correct cable I might add) straight to the
instrument and run the "set collection" from there using the "topcon 800
series direct" instrument settings. Manually collimate the backsight for
the first part of the routine, "set angle and read" puts the gun in search
mode?? Why did I waste my time collimating the silly thing? Ok, go to
foresight direct, manually collimate things again and hit the enter
key......wow. How about that. It went into search mode yet AGAIN! Fine
tune the collimation, hit enter, takes the shot and does the rest on it's
own.....complete with miscollimations!!

Ok, surely if we set this beast to emulate a "GTS series" in the
equipment settings we can get rid of all this nasty robotic behavior once
and for all and have a really heavy regular total station. Ahh, "set
collection" looks like it might work. Using the routine of BD,FD>FR,BR I'm
able to do the BD and the FD part, but after the flip and turn for the FR
when I measure I get not one but yet another unsolicited measurement and
the error message of "angle error of 179-59-56, tolerance set to
30".....continue yes/no?" when I haven't even reached the BR portion of
the routine!?

Earlier versions of SurvCE I have been using the "RC2 only" set up and
things (hopefully now!) have seemed to work. But I wanted to run the "set
collection" routine on a traverse, hence using the radios since the
automated routines as mentioned way up at the top of this post simply do
not work.

I read the "updates" between 1.61.01 and 1.61.03 and do not find any
topcon robot issues addressed between the versions.

Sincerely frustrated,
Dave
