Meters to feet conversion

Postby BrockingtonCRC » Mon Apr 30, 2007 10:41 pm

I have a SurvCE job that is currently in metric and I need to convert the
job to feet based on the start point (long story short, the operator set
up on a known point, but then shot two weeks worth of points using the
metric system). Any suggestions for an easy conversion/fix for this?

I'm considering making a copy of the file, and then using the COGO menu to
scale the data with the start point as the base point and overwriting all
the points. However, I'm not entirely sure that this will achieve the
desired results.

2 weeks ... ouch.

Let me know if you have too much trouble. I think with something like
Starnet I could effect the change pretty quickly. Can I assume
elevation is an important factor and that you may have target and
instrument heights input in feet? I think that can also easily be
handled.

Barring this "other software" solution ... don't most raw file
compilers like Xport or S2007 allow you to edit the raw file and
indicate the correct units?

Let me know if you have any trouble.

Not sure if this is helpful or not, but in Carlson Survey 2007 under the
Points pulldown menu / Coordinate file utilities / Scale points, you are
allowed to do a conversion from feet to meters and vice versa.
Unfortunately, I do not know if you are using this software in the office
for processing your data, however, I think most current surveying software
would have something similar available. Good luck.

By happy coincidence, I just received a demo disk for Carlson Survey 2007!
I'll give it a shot this morning.

If that doesn't work, I'll try correcting the raw data as Rich suggested.

Thanks so much!!!
Eric
