Sokkia SRX and prism offsets

Postby paulk » Mon Jul 30, 2007 4:06 pm

I'm trying to get some efficient way of changing prims in a toposurvey
where the backsight prism is of a different type than the 360 topo prism

Currently I'm manually typing the prism offset -7 and -30 for every change
which is both cumbersome and error prone.

The version 2 manual says:

"Foresight/Backsight Prism Offs et: This drop down menu provides a list of
standard prism offsets."

I can't find this drop down menu - is it available in the SRX driver?

thanks

Paul

My experience is this is an SRX menu choice (several prisms can be entered
in the SRX). Have not been able to choose them in DC either, except for
your manual-entry way. Have to be careful, too, many times it doesn't
change in the instrument, even tho the 'data has been transmitted'.
Usually after the first BS check (correct prism/distance, etc.) is
confirmed, following ones from the same setup I just go for the angle,
ignoring distance, i.e, don't bother changing the PC.

I've been asking Carlson for over two years to let us use different prism
offsets for the backsight and foresights. They have done it for Leica
users but not for the rest of us. I feel like a second class citizen. If
I had bought Leica instead of Topcon, my problem would have been solves
along time ago.

:D
We solved the pain of having to change the prism constant each and every time when you do a backsight by using an adapter which converts a-30 mm prism holder into a -7mm version.

So you don't run the risk of forgetting to change the constant, you save some time too as you don't need to change it anymore!

The adapter is available from www.totalsurvey.com.au for AUD $36 plus shipping and GST
