Leica Set Collection Error

Postby jse580 » Mon Jun 02, 2008 12:42 pm

I recently updated my carlson explorer 600+ with survce v 2.04. I'm running it with a Leica tcr805. It seemed to be working fine until last week.

When collecting a set to a new traverse point the data collector computed the new coordinate value incorrectly. I've included a portion of the rw5 file below to illustrate. Notice that the angle turned to point 24 was read as AR354.49040 the reverse was then read AR174.49150. This checks fairly well and is in fact the correct angle. The next line:

--SS,OP20,FP24,AR714.08670,ZE85.56400,SD520.117000,--STA/IPIN

This is where the error seems to occur the AR714.08670 appears to be off by about 40 minutes. This angle was then used to create an incorrect coordinate value of pt 24.

OC,OP24,N 214332.40998,E 449139.13221,EL378.787,--STA/IPIN

The incorrect calculation only seems to occur before the raw data is processed. If I process the data in the explorer or in survcad the correct value is calculated

24 214337.746 449136.309 378.802 STA/IPIN

Fortunatley the problem was discovered with field checks to existing control before staking. It is obviously a potentially huge problem though.

If anyone can see something I'm missing that would explain the error please let me know. For the time being I will have to remove v2.04 until I can confirm that this error will not occur again.

Thanks

Jason

Is my post to confusing? Has anyone else had any similar problems?

I've looked back through a few of our other RW5 files and the same problem seems to randomly occur. I hadn't noticed it previously because the correct data seems to be used during processing. If anyone can give me any insight on this I'd appreciate it.

I'd also like to know if Carlson actually does any beta testing before releasing new products. I've tried each variation of V2 and all of them have had, in my opinion, major issues. Usually software companies don't charge for a product that is still in the test phase.

We do test but we do not have every combination of instrument/GPS/Robot out there so for equipment specific problems, yeah your going to see some. John should be back int he office tomorrow and he can take a look at your issue.

I'm surprised that I still haven't received any response on this. Has anyone else encountered this problem? If you need any more information from me please let me know.

Thanks

I believe this was addressed in the latest version 2.05. See if that won't do it.
PS: I did read something similar to this in the release notes. but I don't use leica, so I can't say for sure.
