Field To Finish Symbols

Is there a way to erase existing symbols each time I run the field to finish command? I see that there is an pick box labeled "Erase Existing Field to Finish Entities." But this does not do anything I can tell. I need help with this, because I have symbols piling up on top of one another fast, and I'd hate to have to delete all of my symbols by hand each time I redraw the points. Thanks.

If you have that box checked, it shouldn't stack symbols. I use that feature regularly along with the one beside it "erase in range only" so it only erases what I'm redrawing.
