Carlson announced earlier this month that a 3rd party training book by Rick Ellis was now available. I got my copy today, and so far it looks pretty good. It's a "Level 1" manual, so it does not cover everything, but it does cover most of the things a surveyor will be doing on a daily basis.
Not everyone can afford a Carlson College class, so this book is a good beginning. Get the book down pat and take a Carlson College class later and you will be off to the races.
Here's a link to probably the best $80 that you will spend in a long time.

Check it out. I think it may actually help you.

Dent,

Cadapult changed their website around a little, so this link doesn't work anymore. Their list of books can be found here:

Rick's books are all good. I have a couple of his on Civil 3D, and they are indeed the best $80 you can spend on training. He also has free tutorials on AutoCAD.

Now go over to Jennifer DiBona's site, thatcadgirl.com ,and get her 2 books and you will be set to rock and roll in Carlson!! Jin's books even come with thumb drives containing the files you need to do the tutorials. The books themselves are rather heavy duty and laminated so you can't mess them up if you knock over your "ice tea".
