I have just purchased Carlson 2013 with embedded Autocad. When I draw a 2D polyline it automatically puts it in that layer. I want the polyline to be put in the current layer. Any help would be appreciated.

"That layer" being the current layer?? If not, under the MODIFY pull down is where you set your linetype control to "bylayer". Whatever is the current layer will be the layer the linework comes in on.
Do that and what Streek said and it should work.
That way if you want the line to be on the concrete layer, just set the concrete layer as current and all linework and text will fall on the concrete layer. Use your layer manager to set the current layer.
I do a lot of my linework on layer "0"(zero) so I can see it better. Then I use the change layer command to put the final linework on the desired layer.
