Building Dimensioning

Postby Core Design Survey Dept. » Thu May 31, 2001 8:48 pm

Could the routine for annotating building dimensions be revised to allow
options for the direction of the annotations? For example, we do a lot
of
condominiums and have had a standard to place all interior dimensions
the
same direction on the opposing side walls. It's a matter of
presentation
that we noticed requires more editing.

Actually, the mirror command does the trick. Our problem is that we do
the
initial work in SurvCADD, then give it to a drafter to "pretty up" and
produce the final product. And since they are running only AutoCAD,
they
don't have the convenient commands we do. Looks like we'll do more of
the
work and eventually do it all ourselves!

Why don't you just twist the screen, so that the dimensioning will be
created the direction you want. I'm not sure that would really save you
many
steps though. I usually annotate buildings using the auto annotate
command.
I will either change the defaults to get them on the right layer or I
will
filter select the dimensions I just created and change their layer. I
particularly don't like the building dimensions command under survey
text. I
wish I could select the lines/polylines that I want dimensioned without
specifying the direction of each one, a simple dialog box could tell
which
way the user wants all dimension directions to be, along with their
precision.
