importing points from excel

Postby Jon Baker » Fri Jun 01, 2001 5:46 pm

I normally do not do the existing point stuff here.. just the proposed
stuff. so my question is this.. we received an excel spreadsheet of a cl
of
a road stationed every 10 feet or so.. column read (from left to right)
STATION _ OFFSET _ LANES _ NORTHING _ EASTING _ ELEVATION. how would I
get
those into survcad?

First you need to get rid of any of the data that you can't import such
as
Offset and Lanes and possibly move the Station column to the end if you
want
this to be the description. If you need Offset and Lanes in the
description
as well, I will need to look into that for you. You will probably need
to
insert another column and make your own point numbers by typing the
first
two rows in, then highlight those two values and place your cursor on
the
lower right corner of the second value until it turns into a thin black
cross, then drag downward to fill in the rest of the rows with
consecutive
numbers (I can explain filling the point numbers in better if needed).

I'm using Excel 2000 and then can do one of the following:
*Save as a Text (Tab delimited) .txt file and import the text file by
changing the format in which they import
or
*Save as a CSV (Comma delimited) .csv file (this is available to import
on
mine with Survcadd CES) and import the .csv file like a normal ASCII
file.

I'm sure I've confused you. If you are confused and have an example of
what
you got and how you want to import it, then let me know, attach it or
send
it to me.
