Point/elevation display

Postby Richard May » Fri Jul 13, 2001 9:41 pm

Hello,

I am a potential new user that is evaluating the software. I would like
to know how to plot the ground shots on a field run topo using the "."
in the elevation as the point marker to keep the screen as clear as
possible.

Thanks for your help.

Richard,
Due to many factors such as font width, justification, number of
characters in the ELEV field, it would be difficult to position the "."
in
the ELEV field at the exact coordinate of the point.

I was able to get close by defining SRVPNO2.DWG to use "MONOSPAC821 BT"
font
and centering the elevation attribute over coordinate 0,0,0. But this
only
works if the elevation is in the range of 10.00 - 99.99 (5 characters).

In our data collection software for example, we do exactly what you are
asking. But that is our own CAD engine and we have total control over
font
placement. In SurvCADD and Carlson Survey, we are at the mercy of
Autodesk.

Keep in mind that we are always open to user suggestions, so let us know
if
you think there is another way to do this.

What I do in that situation is to run the locate points routine,
selecting
the elevation text only check box, set the layer to what I want and
bingo,
elevations with the decimal "close" to the node. It's not always exact,
but
close enough for my needs. I then run the AutoCAD 'cht' command to
rotate
and size the text to what I need.

Hope this helps.
