slideing side area

Postby Dan Grubb » Mon Apr 28, 2003 5:24 pm

hmm well it looks like my post got removed. so here is my question again.

We were trying to use the slideingside area command to get a certain area on
a lot that one of our clients ask us for. But after talking to Survcadd and
trying it we can not get it to work unless we keep redoing the command until
it's were we need to be. It apears that does not like the polly line we are
useing. Because it has a cut out of a building.

What our client wants is us to show a line at the location were the are is
to stop. But the area has to exclude the building and the drive/parking
area. So we were drawing the pollyline around the lot, building and the
drive/parking area.

Is there a way to get the slideing side area to work or maybe another
command that will do it.

Thx,
Dan

Without your actual drawing, it is a bit difficult to visualize exactly how
this polyline is drawn. Yet, I can see how a routine could have a lot of
difficulty with the polyline as you have described it.

I would suggest the following:

1. create a polyline for the lot alone.

2. determine the area of the exclusions (the building and drives.)

3.add the area of the exclusions to the target area when using the sliding
side routine.

example....
I desire a 43,560 sf lot excluding buildings and drives.
The building and drives cover an area of 6,200 sf.

I execute the sliding side area routine and request and area of
49,760 sf.

Well I just gave it a try with a small sample drawing (a 50x150 lot and a
building and parking area of 2008 sf) and I came up with 5 sq feet off of
what I wanted. Which was an area of 2700 sf.

I took the area I wanted and added the area of the building and parking.
which was 4708 sf. When I put the building and parking are polly line on the
polly line that sliding side area command made and did an area out side of
it I came up with 2695 sf.

it also seems that the bigger the lot is the less the error gets. but if the
area I need is falls say right in the middle of the parking/building cut out
then the area is off big time.

example a lot with an area of 120000 sf (300x400), building/parking area of
25902 and I need an area of 30,000 sf. I get an area of about 40,000 sf out
side the building\parking polly line.
