Slooooooooooooooooooooooooooow Edit Points dialog

Postby BigBlockRanger » Wed Feb 23, 2011 10:47 pm

Updated from 2009 to 2011 and anytime I edit a coordinate file with several hundred points (we're using the ZAK format) it takes an obscenely long time to save the file and return to the drawing window.

2009 performed this same operation in just a second or two. Why is the new version so much slower?

I had that problem when the earlier versions of 2011 came out. The latest versions have improved for me. I am running build 110203.

This is build 101208 and I do not know if 110203 is available for AutoCAD 2006.

Apparently this is something that has to do with the use of the Simplicity ZAK file format.

It hauls ass if I use a .crd file. Unfortunately we use zak files almost exclusively at our office.

I have experienced this problem with CRD files also. HUGE delays exiting the point editor and saving changes, no matter how minor. I cannot say if it continues with the latest patch, I just applied it and have not done any real work with it.

I will send in a support request with details if I can get the problem to repeat in the latest update.

(oh, yeah... I am running on the Intellicad 6.6 cad engine)

I am sitting here waiting for mine to finish deleting 18 points......

I may go have breakfast and come back and see if it is done...

Try using the translate command instead.

Point Elev. Edit

Postby Bill Doucet » Wed May 04, 2011 2:50 pm

Scary, on the project that took an hour to complete we have found a few points which elevations did not change at all. We were lucky that they were in a flat parking lot so they stood out. We are going to test the translate command in hopes that does a quick thorough job.

I have not loaded the Mar 25 update. Didn't even know about it until now. I think I might give it a whirl. Heck, it could not possibly be any slower..... I hope. lol

The file I am using is large (11k points), but before the change to 2011, it was not a problem at all.

For what it is worth, my 'speed' in the editing of points was greatly affected by the number of points in the job, using SurvCE on a Carlson Surveyor.

Performance resumed when I paired down to just what I needed.

Is there any way you can 'divide and conquer' your points to process them, even if just for experiemental purposes to prove to yourself?

Hope it helps or sparks an idea that does :)

Smaller files seem to run at acceptable levels, but large ones are slooooww.

I'm afraid using multiple coordinate files (one for boundary, one for topo, etc) would just add confusion to the other users who access the zak file .
