I have picked the "dashed" text style for some text on a drawing. On the screen it does not change to dashed and it does not print as dashed. Any ideas??

The first thing I would look at is the LTSCALE. Make sure you have (in Settings>Drawing Setup) a reasonable horizontal scale set and that the linetype scaler is set to 0.50 (LTSCALE should be half of horizontal scale).

If this is all set correctly, you may want to use the properties dialog to adjust just the ltscale of this text object to see if this helps.

I get around that problem by using a dotfont. I can send you a copy if you can't get one on the web.
