Elevation -10000000 for points that should be zero!!!!

Postby BigBlockRanger » Thu Sep 06, 2012 8:59 pm

What is happening?!??! Carlson 2013

I create points OR import points with 0 elevation and Carlson makes their elevation -10000000. That's TEN MILLION.

Anybody have a fix aside from going back and editing the points every time?

This is a HUGE pain in the ass.

Please send this question along with your drawing, CRD and file you imported (.txt/.asc) to support@carlsonsw.com so we can take a look at it. Thank you

It's no particular drawing file or crd file. It's every and any file that had 0.00 for the elevation.

Create points from entity = -10000000

Import ascii with 0.00 elevations = -10000000

Enter and assign using 0.00 for elevation = -10000000

A side note is we use ZAK files and not crd or crdb because we have users who are not CAD friendly and still use Simplicity daily. Not to mention 99.9% of our coord data (30+ years) is in the ZAK format.

I have heard of problems with .ZAK files before. Until they come up with a fix, the easiest solution is to go to the POINTS pull down, then down to POINT UTILITIES, then down to ELEVATION FOR POINTS and do your thing there.
I know you shouldn't have to do this, but creating software that is totally compatable with ALL other software is dang near impossible. Sometimes a little work around will be called for.

Thanks, but anything with a zero elevation becomes -10000000. Old files, new files, does not matter.

You can even edit points to be at 0, and it will put them back at -10000000.

If there was a place to enter a default elevation, I would set it at 0.0001 and never think about it again. Unfortunately, there is not a place to do that unless I am just missing something.

Maybe a bad spot in your software? Have you tried down loading the latest build from this web site?? Maybe a new copy will fix the problem??

Elevation -10000000 for points

Postby site admin » Fri Sep 28, 2012 7:52 pm

I noticed that you did not send this to the Carlson support team. It would be very helpful if you could send the details of this along with the version/build of Carlson you are running and all related files to support@carlsonsw.com so we can take a look at it.

We typically do not respond in this forum unless we see that an issue is not getting resolved. If there is a bug, we need to know about it and without the details/files to try and repeat it, we have no way of testing/fixing this for you. Thank you

Actually, I sent an email when requested on September 7th.

Then, when I had no response, I sent the same email on the 17th of September.

Still no response.

I will submit a third email in a minute.

The problem began when I "upgraded" to 2013. 2012 did not have this -1000000 glitch.

We are currently using the most current build: 120814

I honestly think it is an issue with Carlson's ability to read write the ZAK format. It is probably also compounded by the fact few people use ZAK files so bugs and problems are not noticed or ignored by users who are not locked into using ZAK files.

I will add we currently have 2 seats on 2013 and both of them have this problem, so this is not limited to a single machine.

Thanks for the help in getting this resolved.
