Profile to 3D Polyline

When I try to use the command, Carlson goes through the steps and when I get to the Question "erase existing centerline?" no matter what I choose it causes an error message 'Unhandled Exception".
It is not making a 3D polyline, it is just adding an elevation to a 2D line.
Any ideas?
