Trying to convert blocks to points

Postby jmlee@gatech.edu » Thu Dec 08, 2016 10:57 pm

I am sure that this is an old topic but I have been asked to retreive some old data created using an AutoCAD R14 based program. The R14 drawing files can be read (yep Survey 2017 reads R14 dwg files just fine thank you carlson), but the points show up as one large block. I can explode the block into smaller blocks but then I am stuck.

Can anyone make a suggestions as to how to take it from here?

I am new to the forum so if you need a file for your viewing pleasure, explain to me how I attach it and I will send you one.
I don't know what to do since none of the convert points routines will read them (most likely user ignorance on my part).

Thanks,

John

This can be closed. I talked to Brian at the support desk and he gave me the simple commands:

1) select the group of blocks and explode them to create a group of individual blocks
2) select the individual blocks and isolate them so that you can select them
3) execute the coordinate file utility and choose 'Update CRD file from drawing"
4) then use draw locate points to insert the points into the drawing on the pnts layer

Yep, it's that easy.
