DATUM SHIFT File

Postby orkeddy » Mon Mar 26, 2018 7:54 pm

Hello Family!!!
Am yet a novice in the geomatics field, as a matter of factor am an undergraduate student pursuing Bsc. Land Surveying and Geomatics in my final year at the University.
Aside from the introduction, am seeking guidance on the above topic. I tried post-processing renix observations for static GPS observations collected using Promark-800 and Trimble-R7 receivers in Carlson SurveyGNSS 2016 (demo version).
Upon selecting my local coordinate system from the online spatial reference system, the software (Carlson SurveyGNSS 2016) asks me to define the datum shift for my selected datum, Arc1960/UTM Zone 36N. It normally looks for .gsb or Ntv2 file.
I tried by-passing this option but the resulting accuracy from the post-processing was several meters off.
I have spent the past 2 or more weeks searching about .gsb files and the particular datum shift file for my datum of interest
Based on this narration...
What does the datum shift definition file contain? and the .gsb file?
How can I obtain the datum shift file .gsb file for my datum of interest?
Can a new user of the software, like me, write his or her own .gsb file?

Any help on this is greatly appreciated (Sorry for the book!!)
God bless you all
