Issues creating straight offset lines

Im still relatively new to the autocad programs, and Ive been tasked with finding out how to create straight line offsets. Its needed for building foundations, while the boss is digging in an excavator after digging where the corner points are. Ive made a few phone calls to support, and they aren't to sure what method would be best for this purpose.
