Starting a new drawing

Postby jgraves » Fri Sep 25, 2015 1:48 am

How does everyone else start a new drawing?
I have always copied my border drawing into a folder, renamed it and worked from there. I do not think that I utilize a lot of things, such as annotative text, by doing this though.

Is there a better, or best, way?

Save it as a template instead, and use that to create a new drawing. Or, have multiple templates, based on size, etc. I currently just use one.
I have edited my template drawing, adding features that could be common to all drawings, and then erasing things I don't use or put them on a frozen layer, such as different sheet borders. I plan on creating multiple templates but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Save ALL of your settings and Layer setup as a *.dwt file. Save all of your border sheets draw at 1:1 as *.dwg files under your SUPPORT file. That way when you create a new drawing with the -.dwt template, all your settings and layers are all done. Then simply insert you sheet drawing just like any other Block and set it to the desired scale. Then you can also take full advantage of Paper Space.
