VRS old equipment TCP Relay

Postby dhollema » Wed Jul 01, 2009 8:20 pm

I'm trying to get a feel for which older receivers have been used successfully with survCE on a VRS/RTK network. Has anyone used a...

Topcon Legacy-E
Leica SR530
Trimble 4700/4800
Magellan Z-Extreme

If so, do I need Carlson TCP Relay to feed the correction from the data collector the receiver serial port on this older equipment?

I know for sure the SR530 will work. We have multiple clients running those on the different networks in Seattle.

How are the SR530's getting NTRIP corrections? Are you using TCP relay from a bluetooth data collector connected to a cell phone? Or are you using a product like Intuicom RTK Bridge or smallTRIP QUAD?

No Ntrip option, just direct IP port settings. We have 3 networks in Washington using a mix of Ntrip and direct TCP/IP options with both master/auxillary and vrs product.

The RTK bridge is a great option, much easier to get the modem issues worked out for the 530 and you can use Ntrip with that because your rover is just receiving the radio broadcast.

Thanks for the help, this is great. With your SR530 setups, my next question is, how specifically are you getting internet corrections into the receiver? Are you going straight from a modem/laptop into a serial port on the receiver? What hardware are you using for a modem? I know this can be done with the Intuicom RTK Bridge but am looking for an alternate solution to get RTK network corrections into the SR530.

Airlink Raven modem. I think the best option now days, certainly the most flexible is the Bridge. And if you ever picked up additional 530's you wouldn't need more cell accounts.....and you have half the platform for traditional base/rover if you get out of cell coverage for the bridge.

So you go from the Airlink Raven right into the serial port of the receiver?

Have you had any success or ever tried connecting a bluetooth data collector to a cell phone and then using Carlson's TCP Relay to pump correction from the data collector to the receiver's serial port? That way, you could use an ordinary cell phone modem with bluetooth since cell phones with serial type connections are harder and harder to find. My understanding is that you could also use NTRIP because TCP Relay could convert from NTRIP to raw RTCM.
