Annotation units

How do the units get changed (from decimal to architectual) in the annotations? I am working with objects which are drawn with 1unit=1inch and I need to use the auto-annotate/bearing/distance features. The resultant distances are 12 times greater than they should be.
I noticed that when using the Area commands the switch in units affects the output, but not so in the annotations.

It sounds like you are working with a drawing provided by another firm? I would check to be sure that it was not created in architectural units and needs to be scaled down by 1/12.
