Installed the CG Survey 7 demo, but it won't run.

Hi,

We're having problems running the CG Survey 7 demo. We ran the setup
file for the installation on one machine (OS: Windows ME) and the
program works fine.

However, we're also trying to test the demo on a colleague's machine
(running Windows 98, which CG Survey 7 is supposed to be able to run
on). This person draws complex surveys, so it's very important that we
are able to successfully test the software on her computer. (We all
currently use CG-DOS and want to upgrade to CG Survey 7 once we've
confirmed that it willl meet our needs.)

The installation says it was successful (and we entered the 30-day demo
code), but as the program loads, we see series of error messages
immediately after the CG buttons load.

"Error Opening Description Table"
"CG Survey Unable to Continue"
"Exception in C\:PROGRAM FILES\CGSURVEY 7\cg2000a.arx ARX..."
"Unhandled Exception E0000001 (e0000001h) at address 84FA34h."
"CG Survey Error-abort"
"Error handler re-entered. Exiting now."

At this point the program completely shuts down.

How can we make this program run correctly, without errors and crashes?

I don't have the system requirements for CG7, but as I understand it,
CG7 is based on AutoCAD OEM 2004/5 - If this is the case, then none of
the MS gaming OS's (Win9x, ME) are supported.

Unfortunately, unless there is a known problem that can be diagnosed
quickly, the first step is usually getting the system requirements up to
specs. I'm surprised that your ME install is working.

AutoCAD 2004/5 really needs 1GB or more RAM to work with any type of
speed, and 9x/ME do not support more than 512MB. (Even though the system
requirements say 256MB - yea, right)

Call support in the morning.
Good Luck.

Going with McSwain on this one. You're lucky it installed and runs on those
OS's. If your luck holds out, try deleting these two files in the
C:\Program Files\CGSurvey 7 directory. CG_DESC.TBL and CG_DESC.TBX. Sounds
like they are corrupt.

Thanks for the quick responses. I tried deleting those two files, but CG
crashed nonetheless.

On the topic of system requirements: The CG 7 manual says the software should
run on Win 98 or ME machines.

On the other hand, the CG 7 manual turns out to be the CG 6 manual (dated June
2003), with one extra chapter of about 25 pages ("Addendum") added to the front
of it, listing new CG 7 features. The system requirements and installation
instructions are part of the CG 6 material. Has Carlson posted the true system
requirements for CG 7 on their website?

And would they be different? If it's due to the AutoCAD engine, what version of
the AutoCAD engine was included with CG 6?
