Setup - Grid

I am trying to setup the grid setting so that the grid is drawn on the appropriate layer and is then a whole block. Is there a way for the grid to be a block when it is drawn.. Basically we just got carlson and I'm looking for help on setting up the software for drafting.. We have a drawing template w/ all our layers specified in it.. I just need to make sure profiles, text, grids, pipes, proposed pavement are all on the correct layers when it is drawn.. Any leads on this???
