.DWG Issues

I created a .dwg file in Carlson Civil Suite 2018... I brought in points surveyed for this project. I worked in the file placing line work for the project. This .dwg file worked fine last week. This week I went to open this same .dwg file and I get a message from IntelliCAD. Error: Invalid group code. Unable to open this drawing. It contains incorrect or corrupt information. The RECOVER command may be able to extract undamaged information from this drawing. Do you want IntelliCAD to attempt to recover this file?

I click "Yes". The next message that comes up says: IntelliCAD Error: Invalid group code. Unable to RECOVER this drawing. It contains incorrect or corrupt information that is too extensive for repair.

So is all my line work that I did for this .dwg file gone? Do I need to create a whole new .dwg file and start over? What can I do so I don't lose all this work in the future? More importantly, what did I do to cause this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Generally when a drawing file is corrupt and the recover operations fail, which happens in AutoCAD as well, it is difficult to determine any one event that may cause the problem. Therefore, unless there is an error report that can be sent to support to determine the cause; you may not be able to avoid that in the future. However, it is possible to recover the drawing to the last saved backup file (.BAK) without the use of the recover utility. Go to the folder where all of the *.BAK files are located. Select the drawing name in question copy it to a location that will not overwrite the drawing that you were working on. Rename the .BAK file to .DWG and open that file from that folder. If all looks well, with the exception that some of the work you did may not have been saved, then save that file to overwrite the original file. Hope this helps, if you already have the issue solved great, if I have missed informed sorry, I am new to IntelliCAD and Carlson.
