Change point layer/symbols

Is there a easy way to change a multiple points layer or its symbol without
erasing the point and relocationg it? EP offered this option. I tried just
windowing a point and changing its layer in the autocad properties box, but
the layer can't be deleted for some reason. I did select all three objects
that represent the point and I know no other point used its layer.
