Sorry, new user question.

I have a surface and would like to pick a point and know that elevation.

Not really looking to create a point just list the elevation

Maybe take a look at the Drawing Inspector. Turn on "Display Surface Elevation" and "Enable Tag Display", select the surface you are interested in and as you move the cursor around through the drawing you will see the surface elevation and name of surface model.
